Important 84 zolotniks (875 thousandths) silver covered present cup with engraved and chased decoration of stylized and interlaced foliage, engraved in the center with a dedication in French "Prince Serge Galitzine Cannes Golf Club 1894" and surmounting a neo-Gothic-style arcature, the lid decorated en suite, the handle with gadrooned decoration and foliage (top element missing). Some wear and minor dents.

Maker: SAZIKOV with mark of Supplier to the Imperial Court and medal from the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London with profiles of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

History
The Cannes Golf Club was founded in Mandelieu-la-Napoule in 1891 by Grand Duke Michel Mikhailovich of Russia (1861-1929), who had been a golf enthusiast since a stay in Scotland. It was the first golf course on the Côte d'Azur and one of the oldest in France. From the outset, the club was frequented by the international wintering colony on the Riviera, including Englishmen, Russians and members of the European aristocracy.

Rectangular paperweight in carved hard stone, decorated with an assortment of fruits in rhodonite, carnelian, chalcedony, onyx including white and amber grapes, yellow plums, raspberries, blackcurrants resting on nephrite leaves, set on a moving base in Kalgan grey jasper.
Work from the second half of the 19th century, attributed to the workshop of the lapidary Ivan Stebakov (circa 1820-1881) in Ekaterinburg.
Dimensions: 6.5 x 16 x 10 cm (missing and very slightly chipped).
