Lot 80 - A RARE ICON OF THE MOTHER OF GOD OF TIKHVIN

Tempera on wood. Jesus and Mary standing out against a green background.

Preserved in a superb “oklad” in silver 84 zolotniks (875 thousandths) with filigree decoration, openwork on the green background with patterns of small clovers in medallions, the nimbus in solid silver engraved with lobes, the basma in filigree silver decorated with the four angles of circles containing a pattern of nested crosses. Missing part of the watermark at the bottom right, small losses and wear.
